One of the things I love about oriental art is that often it leaves something for your imagination. These birds hopefully do that. This one is made from padaukm a bright red wood that will slowly soften with age. It bstands at 120mm (4 3/4") tall on a natural edged piece of oak burr. It is highly polished with a hard wax polish allowing copious handling. What he / she is thinking and what type oif bird is totally up to the owner.
A pair of unidentified birds perched inquisitively on a log. What they are thinking is up to you. Both birds are made from oak and the log is a simply shaped piece of hawthorn
This pair of delightful birds are perched on a laburnum toadstool. They are both obviously extremely quizzical LOL. The top bird is made from macassar ebony and the lower one is field maple. Overall height is 165mm (6 1/2"). They have a hard wax finish allowing for frequent handling.
These three birds are sculpted in the traditional oriental way of allowing you to decide their expressions, attitudes etc. They are made of, from top down, Macassar ebony, walnut, African ebony. The offcentre stem is sycamore. As the two ebonys are endangere I use scraps and offcuts rather than try and buy thenm from a timber merchant and am lucky enough to have a few pieces I have legally and ecologically sourced. The base is english walnut and is 55mm (2 1/4") square Overall height is 195mm (
This little sculpture is inspired by the effect a raindrop takes when hitting a surface. This is made from padauk and is based on a piece of natural edged oak burr. The contrast in the textures makes it even more appealing. It stands a total of 9.5" (240mm) tall and a max of m7" (180mm wide at the base. Finished with a hard wax polish
Standing 13.5" (340mm) tall and 5.5" (140mm) wide this walnut raindrop is based on a naturally split piece of oak, contrasting with the smooth texture of the raindrop. It is very tactile, begging to be handled. Finished with a hard wax polish for easy maintenance
The pot measures 200mm & 3/4") to the top of the finial and has a maximum diameter of 95mm (3 3/4". It is made from beech that has been stained and textured giving it a unique finish. It has been finished with a hard wax polish allowing it to be hanmdled without fear of fingerprints. The finial on the lid is handmade lampwork glass. The lid and base are both macassar ebony. All in all a beautiful decorative item that will grace any décor,
This is a very tactile, cedar hollow form that begs to be picked up. The body has been textured leaving the grain standing out in 3d. The finial has been japanned with a hard black lacquer and the collar and base with a hard red lacquer. This gives a strong contrast between the smooth hoigh gloss of the lacquer and the textured effect on the body. The body is 7 1/2" (190mm) tall and is 4 1/2" (113mm) at its widest point and it has a 7" (180mm) finial. Perfect decorative piece for any décor b
